Chikmagalur vs. Coorg: Which Coffee Capital Wins Your Next Weekend?

Ask anyone in Bangalore on a Thursday evening and they'll say the same thing: "We're thinking Coorg or Chikmagalur this weekend." Both are coffee destinations in Karnataka, both are within a reasonable drive, and both will absolutely make you forget your inbox for 48 hours. But here's the thing, they're nothing alike once you actually get there.

This isn't a ranking. One isn't better than the other in any clean, objective sense. What this is, though, is an honest Chikmagalur vs Coorg comparison from someone who's thought too hard about it.

Scenic Beauty & Landscapes

Chikmagalur

Mullayanagiri is Karnataka's highest peak at 1,930 metres, and on a clear morning, you can stand there for a while before saying a single word. Mists play out their routine according to their own whimsical ways. Trekking trails exist here in Baba Budangiri, Kudremukh and Ballalarayana Durga that don’t come under the limelight much and that's why they are perfect for trekkers seeking peace and tranquility.

Coorg

Abbey Falls is truly majestic, and one can witness its waters plunging amid a curtain of coffee and spice farms; timing your visit to the post-monsoon season will be an experience to remember. Picturesque Raja’s Seat has likely been clicked millions of times before; nevertheless, the sunset at this place makes all the effort worthwhile. Similarly, Dubare Elephant Camp, located near the banks of the Cauvery River, is an experience that families return to again and again. The roads in Coorg are well-maintained.

Verdict:

  • For real adventure, untouched trails and something culturally layered:
  • For smooth sightseeing and family-friendly ease: Coorg
